Energy Saving in Housing Society-Pumps

Introduction:

Energy conservation measures are becoming increasingly important in today’s world, and the replacement of less efficient pumps with correctly sized energy-efficient pumps is a cost-effective solution for reducing energy consumption in residential buildings. This case study presents the results of a project implemented by M/S PowerTech Energy Solutions in a co-operative housing society in Pune in June 2022.

Objective:

The objective of the project was to replace less efficient domestic pumps with correctly sized energy-efficient pumps to reduce energy consumption and achieve cost savings.

Methodology:

An energy audit of the water pumping system was conducted, and energy conservation measures such as the replacement of less efficient pumps and installation of motion sensors in staircase lights were recommended. The society accepted the recommended measures, and the project was implemented on a Build-Operate-Transfer Model (i.e. shared saving model) in which the society did not have to invest for project implementation.

Results:

The replacement of less efficient domestic pumps with correctly sized energy-efficient pumps resulted in significant energy savings. The actual savings achieved are summarized in the table below:

Parameter Unit Old Pump New Pump
Water Flow LPS 14.3 12.1
Total Head Mtr 54.5 52.5
